2017 Reading Summary

In 2017, I set out to read 84 books. This equates to 7 books a month, something that felt like a lofty goal when I set it. I somehow surpassed this goal, partially thanks to the help of starting a few podcasts in 2017. My goal in 2018 is to expand my non-fiction, short story, … Continue reading 2017 Reading Summary

Season 5: Which Retelling Next?

Fableulous Retellings Podcast

Before we get into the nitty gritty of polling, we just wanted to announce the winning fairy tale to be retold in the last poll: The Twelve Dancing Princesses! This may very well be a good segue away from creepy dark tales, but then again, Grimm fairy tales aren’t exactly very child-friendly either. So…we’ll see.

Again, thanks so much for your votes and we hope to keep the voting open for YOUR input!

As usual, we do send out blanket invites, so if you want to chat with us on our next retelling, please let us know! We are lovely ladies who won’t bite (too hard) and occasionally we do get silly, but we blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alco–sparkly fizzies. Yep.

For the third time, we are once again asking YOU to decide for us what direction Season 5 will go in! We’ve added two of…

Handbook for Mortals: Spoiler Filled

I received a copy of an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  As always, thank you Netgalley. What book is this you ask? Well, I got my hands on a copy of one of the most controversial books of 2017: Handbook for Mortals by Lani Sarem. While I know this … Continue reading Handbook for Mortals: Spoiler Filled

Season 4: Which Retelling Next?

Hey! Go help Mari and me decide what we are going to do for season 4 — some great options here!

Fableulous Retellings Podcast

Before we get into the nitty gritty of polling, we just wanted to announce the winning fairy tale to be retold in the last poll: Donkeyskin! Yep, with your help, we now know what to talk about for our third season.

That being said, we are also sending out some invites! Want to chat with us about Donkeyskin retellings? Let us know! This fairy tale is a personal favorite of mine, but that’s probably because deep down I have a sick and twisty soul with a penchant around sick and twisty tales. In any case, there’s going to be lots of fun discussing the issues to be had in this fairy tale. There’s still a couple weeks left before Season 2 comes to a close, so do let us know if you’re willing to make a guest appearance on our fableulous podcast!

Alright, now that we’ve finally locked down…

Season 3: Which Retelling Next?

Interested in helping us decide what we do for season 3? Vote here!

Fableulous Retellings Podcast

Season 1 is almost done, and we’ve got Season 2 under way, but now we need YOUR help! What fairy tale retelling should we delve into next?

This is just a mere fraction of the fairy tales written down in the world, but you guys, there are SO many options of what to delve into!

We’ve got a couple of ideas of where to head to next, but it would be fun to see what you guys want to see us discuss. So for that to work, we’ve made a teeny tiny poll. Tell us which of the fairy tales you want discussed in our podcast. To keep it concise, we’ve listed down three fairy tales and if you want to suggest us something, throw them in the comments section!

Please make note that we do look for fairy tales that have been RETOLD in at least two different works…

Season 1, Episode 4: Beauty by Robin McKinley

I swear at some point I’ll actually make a blog post about books and yarn but for now, please go enjoy Mari and I talking about Beauty!

Fableulous Retellings Podcast

Mari and Meg discuss a not so modern retelling, but one that is still very important to the Beauty and the Beast circle: Robin McKinley’s Beauty! This book has more of a backstory for Beauty, it even gives her a proper name! They also discuss the importance of describing food and whether or not monkeys can be legally owned as pets.

Season 1, Episode 3: Faerie Tale Theatre Presents

Fableulous Retellings Podcast

This week Mari and Meg discussThe Beauty and the Beastepisode of Faerie Tale Theatre! Mostly we just giggle a lot at the obviously 80s of the show, even despite it trying to be regal and set in olden times.

Also, Anjelica Huston pretty much steals this episode away.

Meg tries to insist that there is a first Gaston appearance and MAYBE this is it?
